Outstanding Achievement in the Promotion of Diversity in Chemistry, Related Sciences, and Engineering
Yearly the Midland Section of the American Chemical Society presents the Outstanding Achievement in the Promotion of Diversity in Chemistry, Related Sciences, and Engineering Award.
Scope: This award recognizes a person or group residing in Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Bay, Cheboygan, Clare, Crawford, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon, Saginaw, and Tuscola counties for outstanding achievement in enhancing the participation of under-represented groups in the study of chemistry, related sciences, and engineering.
The criteria for this award include teaching, mentoring, serving as a role model, and active and sustained participation in organizations that support diversity which have had a demonstrable impact on the promotion of diversity in chemistry, related sciences, and engineering.
Eligibility: Candidate(s) must reside in Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Bay, Cheboygan, Clare, Crawford, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle, Roscommon, Saginaw, and Tuscola counties.
Candidates are not required to be ACS members.
The nomination must come from a Midland Section ACS member.
Nomination Package: Nomination packets must, at a minimum, consist of a current resume or equivalent, a nominating letter, and at least one supporting letter. The nomination must come from a Midland Section ACS member. All letters should state why the nominee is deserving of the award with specific examples of professional involvement/growth, contributions to the profession, and outside affiliations. Additional letters of support from students, parents, community members, and/or administrators may be included.
Nominations not meeting the minimum requirements will be rejected.
Judging: Selected by the Awards Committee.
Deadline: The deadline for nominations is Sunday, March 22, 2026. Submissions received after the March 22 deadline will not be considered. The Midland ACS Local Section reserves the right to extend the nomination window. A notice of extension will be published on the Midland ACS website, midlandacs.org.
